Venezianico Redentore Enigma shows hours and minutes on separate scales across a layered red dial, a regulator layout drawn from 18th-century clocks.
A regulator dial
The large central dauphine hand marks the minutes, and a smaller hand shows the hours on a 24-hour subdial. Eighteenth-century regulator clocks split the two to give the minute hand its own clear scale. Because the hour hand turns once a day, a glance tells you whether it is a.m. or p.m.
Built in layers
The brass dial base is finished in red, with a sunburst pattern and a smoky gradient under lacquer. CNC-machined recesses hold the domed hour and minute rings, and the levels are assembled by hand. The raised rings serve as the scales, leaving an open field of color free of conventional hour markers.
A hand-aged Italian strap
Tuscan artisans age the edges of the red Italian leather strap. They brush it repeatedly to echo the darkening gradient of the dial and carry its color beyond the case.
The details
A Japanese NH39A automatic movement is modified for the two-hand regulator display. The 316L stainless steel case measures 40 mm across, 46.7 mm lug to lug, and 11.4 mm thick. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal covers the dial, and the crown is push-pull.
Water resistance is rated at 50 meters, and the strap closes with a pin buckle. The Redentore collection takes its architectural inspiration from Andrea Palladio’s Basilica del Redentore in Venice.
Andrea Palladio’s Renaissance church on Venice’s Giudecca gives the collection its name. The balance of its architectural forms inspired the proportions of the watch case.
Read minutes from the large central hand and hours from the small subdial. The hour hand completes one circuit in 24 hours, so its position also distinguishes the first and second halves of the day. The two readings use separate scales rather than a conventional pair of central hands.
Wind it by hand before putting it on. Venezianico recommends about 20–30 turns of the crown to provide an initial reserve. If the crown screws down, unscrew it before winding and secure it afterward. The rotor replenishes the reserve as you wear the watch, though light activity may not supply enough energy to keep it running.
Sapphire’s hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale makes it highly resistant to everyday scratches. It can still be scratched by harder materials, and a hard impact can chip or crack it, especially at an edge.
TMI, part of the Seiko group, supplies the Japanese NH39A automatic movement. Wrist motion turns its rotor to wind the mainspring, and it can also be wound by hand. The watch is made in Italy using this Japanese movement.
