The 46 mm U-Boat Sommerso Ceramic Burgundy has a burgundy-to-black dial that fades from top to bottom, inside a unidirectional black ceramic bezel.
Built for the water
The watch is water-resistant to 300 meters, ready for swimming and diving. The bezel turns in one direction only, and its graduated ring carries white luminous markings, letting you read elapsed minutes against the scale.
A layered dial with a visible ruby
Brushed metal numerals sit above the three-level dial, with white Super-LumiNova on the hands and hour markers. A visible ruby at 6 o’clock, the 24-hour hand, and the mark on the minute hand add small red details. Anti-reflective sapphire covers the dial, with a magnifying lens over the date window.
Rooted in a 1942 naval design
The watch’s large numerals and protected left-side crown come from Ilvo Fontana’s 1942 plans for an Italian Navy watch that was never built. His grandson Italo revived the design in Lucca. On the Sommerso, the screw-down crown sits beneath U-Boat’s patented protector.
The details
The 46 mm case is satin-finished stainless steel. Seven screws secure the case back.
The Swiss U-28 automatic movement displays the hours, minutes, and seconds, along with the date and a 24-hour indication. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, with 25 jewels and a 38-hour power reserve.
The black vulcanized rubber strap has a calfskin lining with a Kodiak water-repellent treatment. It measures 22 mm at the lugs and closes with a stainless steel pin buckle. The watch is made in Italy.
Align its reference marker with the minute hand at the start of an interval, then read elapsed minutes against the bezel scale. Its one-way rotation means an accidental turn can increase the elapsed time shown, rather than reduce it.
It distinguishes morning from evening. The main hour hand goes around the dial twice a day, while the 24-hour hand makes one full turn; read it against its own scale to tell, for example, 4 a.m. from 4 p.m.
It means ceramic bezel. Ceramic forms the insert in the rotating ring around the dial, while stainless steel forms the case beneath it.
The main strap is black vulcanized rubber, with a calfskin lining underneath. Kodiak treatment makes the lining water-repellent; it does not change the strap’s main material.
