U-Boat Sommerso Ceramic Green combines a green-to-black dial and unidirectional ceramic bezel with a protected left-side crown in a 46 mm steel case.
Sommerso takes the Classico’s large numerals and left-side crown into a dive-watch design. Those features trace back to Ilvo Fontana’s unrealized 1942 naval watch drawings, revived by his grandson Italo in Lucca. On this version, the three-level dial fades from green at the top to black below. Brushed metal numerals and white Super-LumiNova stand above the surface, with a visible ruby at 6 o’clock.
A green-and-black ceramic insert repeats the dial’s two colors, with white luminous references on the graduated ring. The bezel turns in one direction to track elapsed minutes. A red 24-hour hand and a red reference on the minute hand add separate accents to the display.
The 46 mm satin-finished stainless steel case has a screw-down crown beneath U-Boat’s patented protector on the left. Seven screws secure the back. Anti-reflective sapphire protects the dial and incorporates a magnifying lens above the date window.
A Swiss U-28 automatic movement drives the hours, minutes, seconds, date, and 24-hour indication. It has 25 jewels and a 38-hour power reserve, and runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour.
The black vulcanized rubber strap is lined with calfskin treated with Kodiak for water repellency. It measures 22 mm at the watch and closes with a stainless steel pin buckle. Water resistance is rated at 30 atm.
Align its reference marker with the minute hand at the start of an interval, then read elapsed minutes against the bezel scale. Its one-way rotation means an accidental turn can increase the elapsed time shown, rather than reduce it.
It distinguishes morning from evening. The main hour hand goes around the dial twice a day, while the 24-hour hand makes one full turn; read it against its own scale to tell, for example, 4 a.m. from 4 p.m.
It means ceramic bezel. Ceramic forms the insert in the rotating ring around the dial, while stainless steel forms the case beneath it.
The main strap is black vulcanized rubber, with a calfskin lining underneath. Kodiak treatment makes the lining water-repellent; it does not change the strap’s main material.
