Overview

Zeppelin Friedrichshafen GMT Automatic Watch with White Dial.

The Friedrichshafen line takes its name from the town on Lake Constance where the first Zeppelin, the LZ 1, flew in 1900. The Friedrichshafen GMT reads a second time zone from a central GMT hand. At 42 mm wide and 14 mm thick, the case is stainless steel.

A Japanese Miyota 9075 automatic movement sits beneath a K1 mineral crystal.

A Clous de Paris pattern works the white dial. The watch is fitted with a blue leather strap, secured by a pin buckle.

Questions & Answers

Why is the line called Friedrichshafen?

It is the town on Lake Constance where Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin built his airships, and where the first of them, the LZ 1, took off in 1900.

Where is it made?

In Germany, at the Zeppelin in-house production in Ruhla, Thuringia. The movement comes from a Swiss or a Japanese maker, and the specification identifies it.

How does the GMT hand work on this movement?

The Miyota 9075 is a travel GMT. The crown jumps the local hour hand forward or back in whole hours while the GMT hand and the seconds carry on undisturbed, so you reset to a new zone with the watch still running.

What is the Clous de Paris pattern?

A grid of small pyramids across the dial, named after the heads of nails, clous in French. The facets break up the light, so the surface reads as texture and shifts with the angle.

What is K1 mineral crystal?

A hardened mineral crystal whose surface is chemically strengthened, which lifts its scratch resistance well above ordinary mineral crystal while keeping the give that stops it from shattering on a knock.
