Overview

Zeppelin Atlantic Regulator Automatic Watch with Beige Dial.

The Atlantic line recalls the transatlantic crossings that Zeppelin airships flew from 1924 onward. The Atlantic Regulator separates the hours, the minutes and the seconds onto three axes. At 42 mm wide and 12 mm thick, the case is stainless steel.

Under a sapphire crystal, a Swiss SW 266 automatic movement powers the date; the crown screws down and the case back is pressed in.

Silver numerals and indices mark the beige dial, which is itself luminous. The watch comes on a brown leather strap closed by a pin buckle.

Questions & Answers

What is the Atlantic line about?

The transatlantic crossings that Zeppelin airships flew from 1924, starting with the LZ 126. The dials keep to the essential readings.

Where is it made?

In Germany, at the Zeppelin in-house production in Ruhla, Thuringia. The movement comes from a Swiss or a Japanese maker, and the specification identifies it.

How do you read a regulator dial?

Hours, minutes and seconds each sit on their own axis, on hands that keep clear of one another. The layout comes from the precision clocks that watchmakers set their own work by.

Does the crown screw down?

Yes. It threads onto the case tube and compresses its gasket, which is what holds the water rating. Unscrew it to set the time, and screw it back down before the watch goes near water.

How hard is the sapphire crystal?

Synthetic sapphire sits at 9 on the Mohs scale, just under diamond, so the everyday abrasives that mark a mineral crystal leave it untouched. It is brittle in exchange, so a sharp impact on the edge is what to avoid.
