The Vostok Europe Undiné Cranberry, limited to 3,000 watches, pairs a meca-quartz chronograph with a dial of cranberry enamel over metallic powder.
An enamel dial
Enamel over metallic powder gives the dial its burgundy color, and Vostok Europe describes each dial as unique. Super-LumiNova on the hands and the polished metal indexes helps you read the time in low light.
A meca-quartz chronograph
The TMI VK68 keeps time with quartz and drives its chronograph through a mechanical module. The chronograph times intervals of up to 60 minutes, with a central seconds hand and a 60-minute counter. Its hands snap back to zero instantly on reset. A small seconds hand and a 24-hour indicator complete the dial.
Built for the water
The rotating diver bezel lets you time a swim or a dive from the moment you set its marker. The solid case back screws down, and water resistance is rated at 200 meters.
Named for the undines
Undines are water spirits first described by the 16th-century physician Paracelsus, and the name comes from the Latin unda, meaning “wave.” Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué’s 1811 novella Undine later made them a favorite of German Romantic literature.
The details
The Japanese-made TMI VK68 meca-quartz chronograph movement powers the hours, minutes, small seconds, date, central chronograph seconds, 60-minute counter, and 24-hour indicator.
The 316L stainless steel case measures 39 mm across, 48 mm lug to lug, and 13.5 mm thick. A 3 mm thick K1 crystal, a hardened mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating, covers the dial. The solid case back screws down, and water resistance is rated at 200 meters.
The watch comes with an Italian suede strap and two silicone straps, each 20 mm at the lugs and fastened with a buckle. Quick-release spring bars let you swap them without tools. The watch ships in a Vostok Europe compact box.
The undines, water spirits first described by the 16th-century physician Paracelsus. The word comes from the Latin unda, meaning wave.
A quartz caliber with a mechanically driven chronograph module. Quartz keeps the time, and the central chronograph hand is actuated mechanically, allowing it to reset instantly to zero.
A synthetic crystal that combines the shock resistance of hardened mineral glass with scratch resistance close to that of sapphire. On this watch, the crystal has an anti-reflective coating to improve readability.
The case measures 48 mm from lug to lug. That span across the top of the wrist matters more for fit than the 39 mm case diameter.
TMI, a movement maker in Japan’s Seiko Group. Vostok Europe, founded in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2003, has used Japanese movements since 2010 and stopped using Russian ones in 2014. The case is assembled in Lithuania around this quartz caliber.
