Venezianico Nereide Ultraleggero 42 opens its gray dial in three layers, revealing the automatic movement through a patented construction.
The open dial draws on Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man and the Renaissance relationship between art, geometry, and science. Its layout follows the golden ratio, with three superimposed layers framing the visible mechanism. The first layer also replaces the movement’s spacer ring, making the dial part of the internal construction. This solution is covered by patent no. 102021000031718.
Transparent PMMA sections and skeletonized surfaces with radial satin finishing give the dial its layered appearance. Swiss-made BGW9 Super-LumiNova provides illumination in low light after exposure to light. The surrounding 316L steel contrasts solid surfaces with the openings in the dial.
The Japanese NH70A skeletonized automatic movement powers hours, minutes, and seconds beneath an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The case measures 42 mm across, 49 mm from lug to lug, and 13.4 mm thick. A steel bezel turns through 120 clicks around the dial. The crown screws down, and water resistance is rated at 20 atm.
The case back continues the technical design with alternating screws and grooves, combining radial satin, micro-sandblasted, and polished finishes. The gray Italian rubber strap follows the case and fastens with a pin buckle. The flexible rubber resists abrasion and has a specified temperature range of -30°C to +70°C.
The Nereide name recalls a submarine built in Venice in the early 20th century, linking the visible mechanics with the collection’s naval inspiration.
It was the name of a submarine built in Venice between 1911 and 1913. The collection draws on that chapter of Venetian naval engineering for its maritime identity and rotating-bezel design.
Align the bezel’s reference marker with the minute hand at the start of an interval. As the hand advances, the scale shows elapsed minutes. With 120 clicks around a 60-minute scale, each click corresponds to half a minute. The bezel measures time independently of the movement.
Wind it by hand before putting it on. Venezianico recommends about 20–30 turns of the crown to provide an initial reserve. If the crown screws down, unscrew it before winding and secure it afterward. The rotor replenishes the reserve as you wear the watch, though light activity may not supply enough energy to keep it running.
Sapphire’s hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale makes it highly resistant to everyday scratches. It can still be scratched by harder materials, and a hard impact can chip or crack it, especially at an edge.
The openings reveal parts of the Japanese NH70A skeletonized automatic movement, supplied by TMI, part of the Seiko group. The first of the dial’s three layers also replaces the usual movement spacer ring. As the watch moves on your wrist, the rotor winds the mainspring.
