Overview
Venezianico Nereide Avventurina 42 brings the sparkle of blue Venetian glass to a steel watch with a tungsten bezel and Swiss automatic movement.
Venetian glassmakers developed aventurine in the 17th century. Tiny metallic inclusions catch the light inside the glass, creating the appearance of stars across a dark sky. Its discovery is traditionally attributed to copper falling by chance into a glass mixture; the technique was documented by 1644.
Slow cooling allows the copper inclusions to form within the blue glass. The material is then cold-cut like a hard stone into a 0.4 mm layer and mounted on a brass base. A sunray-finished inner flange adds a second reflection around the sparkling glass. Swiss-made BGW9 Super-LumiNova glows in low light after exposure to light.
A 120-click rotating bezel carries a polished tungsten insert. The 316L stainless steel case measures 42 mm across and 49 mm from lug to lug, with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, and 20 atm water resistance.
The Swiss Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement displays hours, minutes, seconds, and the date, within a case 12.5 mm thick. A blue Italian rubber strap fastens with a pin buckle.
Nereide takes its name from the submarine built in Venice in the early 20th century, a link to the city’s naval engineering.

What does the name Nereide refer to?
It was the name of a submarine built in Venice between 1911 and 1913. The collection draws on that chapter of Venetian naval engineering for its maritime identity and rotating-bezel design.
Will every aventurine dial have the same sparkle?
The copper inclusions form within the glass as it cools. Their positions and reflections vary slightly, so the sparkle changes from dial to dial and with the angle of light.
Is aventurine a natural stone in this watch?
No. Here, aventurine is glass associated with 17th-century Venetian glassmaking. Metallic inclusions form within the glass and create its sparkle. Once cooled, it is cut and finished like a hard stone for use as a dial.
Why use tungsten for the bezel insert?
The polished tungsten insert is highly scratch-resistant, helping it retain its finish during everyday wear. It is a separate component from the case and still needs protection from hard impacts.
How does the rotating bezel measure elapsed time?
Align the bezel’s reference marker with the minute hand at the start of an interval. As the hand advances, the scale shows elapsed minutes. With 120 clicks around a 60-minute scale, each click corresponds to half a minute. The bezel measures time independently of the movement.
