Timex Intelligent Quartz Tide Temp Compass tracks tide, temperature, and electronic compass readings with a fourth instrument hand on a beige dial.
Three instruments on one hand
Depending on the mode you select, the fourth hand at the center points to a tide, temperature, or compass reading. The regular hands keep showing the time, and the readings stay analog, with no separate digital screen. The broad case leaves room for the scales around the dial. Before an early fishing trip, you can check the tide at a glance.
INDIGLO backlight
INDIGLO illuminates the face at the push of a button, so you can read the scales on a dark walk down to the shore. Timex introduced this full-dial electroluminescent backlight in 1992.
The details
The stainless steel case measures 45 mm across and 13 mm thick, with mineral crystal over the quartz-powered display. The black leather strap measures 16 mm at the lugs and fastens with a pin buckle. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters, enough for snorkeling and surfing. Timex advises against pressing the buttons underwater.
Body heat influences the sensor. To measure the air temperature, take the watch off and leave it in the shade for several minutes before checking the reading.
It follows the lunar tidal cycle after you set it to local conditions. The shape of the coastline and the Sun’s influence also affect tides, so the display needs periodic adjustment and should not be treated as an exact local tide table.
The compass turns off after 20 seconds to conserve battery power. Press COMPASS again to activate it for another 20 seconds.
