The Scribo La Dotta Turrita fountain pen recalls Bologna's medieval towers in handcrafted red-and-brown resin, finished with ruthenium details.
A 'forest of towers' once rose above medieval Bologna. Known as a selva turrita, that crowded skyline is compared by Scribo to Manhattan almost a millennium later. It gives Turrita its name and its place in La Dotta, the collection named for Bologna as 'the learned one'.
Turrita was introduced alongside Valverde and Al Zigant, three editions devoted to the city's medieval and Renaissance landmarks. Valverde honors the sixteenth-century cistern built to supply Bologna with water. Al Zigant, 'the Giant', is the affectionate, ironic nickname in Bologna's dialect for the sixteenth-century Fountain of Neptune, built to celebrate the city's power. Turrita looks further back, to the towers of the medieval skyline.
The cap, barrel, knob, and nib holder are handcrafted in red-and-brown resin, with ruthenium-finished clip and metal components. An ebonite feed supplies the Scribo 14k gold nib. The pen fills by piston with bottled ink, holds 1.42 ml, and closes with a screw-on cap.
Made in Italy in a limited production of 219 fountain pens for this color, Turrita comes in a natural leather and cotton case. It measures 148 mm capped, with a barrel width of 16.75 mm.
