Platinum’s Izumo Yakumo Byakudan fountain pen layers silver-outlined clouds over ebonite in a brown urushi finish whose color develops with age.
A sea of clouds and sky stretches across the barrel, inspired by the cloud paintings on the ceiling of Izumo Shrine. Deep colors of urushi and silver outlines lend the maki-e scene its atmospheric character.
Byakudan refers to sandalwood used in kodo, the Japanese incense ceremony. The name recalls the color that the lacquer develops over time. Ebonite forms the body beneath the brown urushi finish.
The handmade Japanese pen writes with an 18k gold nib, closes with a screw-on cap, and accepts ink cartridges or the included converter for bottled ink.

Why is the finish called Byakudan?
The name refers to sandalwood used in kodo, the Japanese incense ceremony, recalling the color the lacquer develops as it ages. The body itself is ebonite.
What inspired the cloud design?
Cloud paintings on the ceiling of Izumo Shrine inspired the sea of clouds and sky. Colored urushi and silver outlines carry the scene across the barrel.
Can I use bottled ink?
Yes. A converter is included, and ink cartridges can also be used.
Does the Byakudan finish need any special care?
Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid adhesive labels or tape on the decoration, since removing them can damage the surface.

How returns work. Just let us know and we'll email you a prepaid DHL Express return label — you never have to arrange a shipment or pay anything up front. The return cost is deducted from your refund. If the piece arrived damaged or wasn't what you ordered, the return is on us.
