Overview
Bellflowers give the Nakaya Cigar Long Kikyo fountain pen its name and blue urushi color, developed through repeated lacquer trials in Japan.
Kikyo takes its name from bellflowers. Nakaya developed the glossy blue through repeated trials, working toward a shade it found especially difficult to achieve in urushi. The flower provides the inspiration; the lacquer gives that blue its depth and shine.
The body is ebonite, made from natural rubber and sulfur, with urushi providing the exterior finish.
Made by hand in Japan, this model has a 14k gold nib. A screw-on cap closes the pen, and the cartridge/converter system accepts cartridges or bottled fountain pen ink.
It measures 163 mm capped, with a barrel length of 143 mm and a barrel width of 15 mm. It weighs 25 g with the cap and 17 g without it.
Nakaya was founded in 1999 by Toshiya Nakata to make custom urushi fountain pens, working with craftspeople whose experience at Platinum Pen spanned more than 40 years. Its name comes from Nakaya Manufacturing Company, the business founded in 1924 that preceded Platinum.

Why is this finish called Kikyo?
It is named after bellflowers. Nakaya developed the glossy blue urushi through repeated color trials to reach the intended shade.
Can I use bottled ink?
Yes. The cartridge/converter system accepts a converter for bottled fountain pen ink, or you can use ink cartridges.
How should I care for the urushi?
Keep the pen out of direct sunlight and away from extremely dry conditions. Wipe away ink promptly with a soft, damp cloth. If the ink does not come off, contact Nakaya.

How returns work. Just let us know and we'll email you a prepaid DHL Express return label — you never have to arrange a shipment or pay anything up front. The return cost is deducted from your refund. If the piece arrived damaged or wasn't what you ordered, the return is on us.
