Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon EOD combines a black dial and titanium case with three distinct systems that protect the movement against shocks.
Named for explosive ordnance disposal units and licensed by the U.S. Navy, the EOD protects its movement at three levels. SpringLOCK surrounds the balance spring with a cage that limits how far its coils can expand during an impact. SpringSEAL secures the regulator setting, while an elastomer ring patented in 2017 surrounds both the movement and dial. This outer ring allows the assembly to move slightly and absorb impact energy, complementing the protection of the smaller components inside.
A unidirectional bezel provides an elapsed-time scale around the black time-and-date dial. The hands, hour markers, and bezel are illuminated by sealed tritium gas tubes, whose glow needs no battery or charge from light. Measuring 42 mm across and 13.7 mm thick, the titanium case has a sapphire crystal over the display.
The COSC-certified Ball RR1101-CSL automatic movement uses oil formulated for temperatures down to -45°C. A mu-metal shield redirects magnetic fields around the movement, providing resistance to 80,000 A/m (1,000 gauss). The case is water-resistant to 30 atm.
A titanium bracelet closes with a folding clasp.
Each acts on a different part of the watch. SpringLOCK places a cage around the balance spring to limit how far its coils can expand during an impact. SpringSEAL helps preserve the regulator setting used to adjust the movement’s rate. Around both the movement and dial, an elastomer ring allows slight movement to absorb impact energy before it reaches the components inside.
Its tritium tubes illuminate the hands, hour markers, and bezel. Tritium inside each sealed glass tube activates a luminous coating continuously, without a battery or prior exposure to light. The glow gradually fades as the tritium decays, with a half-life of about 12.3 years.
A mu-metal shield redirects static and low-frequency magnetic fields around the mechanical movement. This helps keep those fields from disturbing its rate. The watch is rated to 80,000 A/m (1,000 gauss); stronger magnetic fields can exceed that protection.
It passed independent chronometer testing over 15 days, in five positions and at three temperatures. The permitted average daily rate during the test is -4 to +6 seconds. This traditional test is performed before the movement is cased, so the watch’s rate in daily wear can vary.
Water resistance depends on the condition of the seals and correct closure of the crown and case. Seals change with age, so the pressure rating does not mean water resistance remains unchanged throughout the watch’s life. Follow Ball’s care and service instructions.
Yes, we are an Official Ball Authorised Dealer, and an authorised dealer for every brand we carry.
With over 15 years in the luxury market, we guarantee the authenticity and quality of every piece we sell.
Your order arrives brand new in its original Ball packaging, with all official documentation and the Ball warranty card, stamped and dated by us.
The warranty covers manufacturing defects. It doesn't cover normal wear and tear or accidental damage — and on watches, it doesn't cover straps, bracelets, or batteries.
