The Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon EOD guards its movement with three separate shock systems and pairs a black dial with a titanium case.
Three layers of shock protection
Named for explosive ordnance disposal units and licensed by the U.S. Navy, the EOD uses three shock systems, each protecting a different part of the watch.
SpringLOCK surrounds the balance spring with a cage that limits how far its coils can expand during an impact. SpringSEAL helps hold the regulator at its setting. The regulator is the part used to adjust the movement’s rate.
An elastomer ring, patented in 2017, surrounds both the movement and the dial. The ring lets the movement and dial shift slightly to absorb impact energy and shield the whole unit. SpringLOCK and SpringSEAL protect the smaller components within. All three systems earn their keep on a job site, on the trail, or anywhere the watch is likely to take a knock.
An elapsed-time bezel
Around the black dial, the unidirectional bezel carries a scale for measuring elapsed time. You can use it to time an interval while still reading the time on the main hands and the date on the dial. Sealed tritium gas tubes illuminate the hands, hour markers, and bezel, glowing continuously without a battery or any need for prior exposure to light.
Certified accurate, even in deep cold
The COSC-certified Ball RR1101-CSL automatic movement uses oil formulated for temperatures down to -49°F (-45°C). COSC, the official Swiss institute that certifies chronometers, tests each movement for 15 days.
Protected against magnetism
Guarding against magnetism is an old Ball concern, dating to the standards Webb C. Ball set for railroad watches after the 1891 train collision at Kipton, Ohio. A mu-metal shield redirects magnetic fields around the movement to help protect its rate. Magnetic resistance is rated at 80,000 A/m (1,000 gauss).
The details
The titanium case measures 42 mm across and 13.7 mm thick, with a sapphire crystal over the dial. The case is water-resistant to 300 meters.
A titanium bracelet closes with a folding clasp.
Each acts on a different part of the watch. SpringLOCK places a cage around the balance spring to limit how far its coils can expand during an impact. SpringSEAL helps preserve the regulator setting used to adjust the movement’s rate. Around both the movement and dial, an elastomer ring allows slight movement to absorb impact energy before it reaches the components inside.
Its tritium tubes illuminate the hands, hour markers, and bezel. Inside each sealed glass tube, tritium activates a luminous coating. The tubes glow continuously, without a battery or any need to be charged by sunlight or a lamp. The glow gradually fades as the tritium decays, with a half-life of about 12.3 years.
A mu-metal shield redirects static and low-frequency magnetic fields around the mechanical movement. This helps keep those fields from disturbing its rate. The watch is rated to 80,000 A/m (1,000 gauss). Stronger fields can exceed that protection.
The movement passed independent chronometer testing over 15 days, in five positions and at three temperatures. The permitted average daily rate during testing is -4 to +6 seconds. The test is done before the movement is fitted into the case, so the watch’s daily rate on the wrist can vary.
Water resistance depends on the condition of the seals and correct closure of the crown and case. Seals age over time, so water resistance can decline unless the seals are checked and replaced. Follow Ball’s care and service instructions.
Yes, we are an Official Ball Authorised Dealer, and an authorised dealer for every brand we carry.
With over 15 years in the luxury market, we guarantee the authenticity and quality of every piece we sell.
Your order arrives brand new in its original Ball packaging, with all official documentation and the Ball warranty card, stamped and dated by us.
The warranty covers manufacturing defects. It doesn't cover normal wear and tear or accidental damage — and on watches, it doesn't cover straps, bracelets, or batteries.
