U-Boat Capsoil Darkmoon Kama Quartz Watch with Grey Dial.
In the Capsoil line, the case is filled entirely with low-viscosity oil, so the dial is read through the fluid bath under a compensation bubble that absorbs thermal expansion between 0 and 60 °C. The Capsoil Darkmoon Kama sets a purple and black photochromic filter over a brushed soleil dial in bare steel. The stainless steel case measures 46.5 mm in diameter.
A Swiss Ronda 762 quartz movement operates submerged in the oil, sealed beneath a domed sapphire crystal. The crown screws down, while a Locking Ring System in 316L steel provides access to the battery without requiring factory intervention. The applied U-shaped hour marker is treated with Super-LumiNova, and the case back is laser-engraved with a QR code.
The dial is in brushed soleil metal under a purple and black photochromic filter, presented in gray, and the hands are treated with Superluminova for legibility in the dark. It is delivered on a calfskin leather strap, secured by a 316L stainless steel buckle.
It fills the space between the dial and the crystal. Light travels through the oil at close to the same speed as through the crystal, so the reflection falls away and the hands read as if they sat on the surface. An air bubble takes up the change in volume as the temperature moves.
From a drawing Ilvo Fontana made in 1942 for the Italian naval military forces, a diving watch that remained on paper. His grandson Italo Fontana revived it in Lucca and founded U-Boat on its proportions and on the crown set on the left side of the case.
It is a layer over the dial that darkens as ultraviolet light reaches it and clears again indoors, the same chemistry as a pair of reactive eyeglass lenses. The dial seen at a desk and the dial seen in the street are different faces of the same watch.
It is a large watch and it is built to read as one. Compare the figure against a watch you already own before you order, because the diameter is what decides this and it is the measurement a photograph flattens. A loose cuff will pass over it.
It is a phosphorescent pigment, so it charges from daylight or a lamp and gives its brightest reading in the first minutes. It fades over the hours that follow and takes a fresh charge every time it meets light again.
