Friday Outfit: Day of Human Space Flight

Hello everyone,

Today’s Friday Outfit is inspired by the International Day of Human Space Flight and the Cosmonautics Day (Russia).

A 12th April 1961 the soviet Yuri Gagarin became the first human in ever conquer the space on aboard Vostok 1 spacecraft. This marked the beginning of the Space Age although the first attempts to conquer the space had begun back in the 1920’s using animals. The first animals used were vinegar flies.

Automatic watches manufacturers and fountain pen makers also wanted to contribute to this deed that at a time seemed impossible to achieve.

The conditions to which cosmonauts are subjected meant a challenge for watches and writing instruments brands as Fortis or Fisher Space Pen, which wanted to do their bit to help in exploring beyond the Earth.

Regarding the swiss watchmaking pioneer in automatic watches, it has found its strength in challenging gravity. They invest in technological innovation to create reliable watches such as the Fortis Official Cosmonauts Chronograph Automatic Watch. In fact, since 1992 when an automatic watch first went to space, Fortis has become as the brand of outer space. As an example, in 1994 Fortis automatic chronograph watches were chosen by the russian training centre at “Star City” as the official cosmonaut’s equipment. Moreover, a Fortis automatic watch was also in the Mars 500 mission, the first trip to the neighboring planet.
