To say this pen is spectacular would be a massive understatement- it is gorgeous, an object of beauty, the centrepiece of my collection … oh and it writes nicely with some flex in the nib.

Meistersinger lead the way in single-handed watches but the superb German engineering with 26 jewel Swiss automatic movements comes at a premium, so I save wearing the two I have for best. The quartz Iron Annie bauhaus monotimer (also made in Germany) is a fraction of the price so if you want to try ‘relaxed time’ this is an affordable high quality quartz alternative. At a glance, this could be mistaken for a Meistersinger. Hours, quarters and five minute intervals are similarly divided by indices of different length with hours marked by contrasting raised metallic Arabic numerals. It is possible to tell the time to within a couple of minutes. Also like some Meistersingers models, there is a discrete date window at six o’clock. The elegant minimalistic aesthetic sits well in the Iron Annie bauhaus range, available in Beige, Black or Dark Blue; this is my fourth Iron Annie bauhaus. The Swiss ETA F06.111 quartz movement does the job, although an exhibition back for this seems superfluous. Being quartz, the case is relatively slim at 11mm and light at 33 grams and its side profile curves in towards the base accentuating its slimness. The choices of stitched leather or stainless steel fine mesh strap both suit the watch well. My only minor criticism is that this watch would have benefited from the end of redundant minute shaft not being left visible; Zeppelin monotimers from the same manufacturer as Iron Annie - fundamentally the same watch and movement with different styling - have a small disc which colour-matches the hour hand covering the end of this shaft (as do Meistersingers) so Pointtec could easily have added that finishing touch here. Still, you could buy ten Iron Annies for the price of one Meistersinger; with generous discounts available you can get change from £200.

The Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Age is a wonderful fountain pen. I chose an extra fine nib and it glides over the page effortlessly with very good ink flow, letting Me write in a neat, small script even on cheap copier paper.

The pen itself is lovely to hold, the basalt-resin case feels very tactile and actually absorbs body heat so very quickly feels pleasingly warm in your hand.
Quality is first class, from the sprung pocket clip to the secure twist-lock cap and the magnetic cap logo that can be swapped out if you wish to personalise your pen.
The only downside would be not having any indication of ink capacity, but the tank is large enough to write several pages and you soon get to know when to refill.
