Vostok Europe Space Race Automatic Watch with Blue Dial.
The Space Race line spans from the first artificial satellite of 1957 to the Apollo-Soyuz mission of 1975, which closed the contest between the USSR and the USA. The Space Race Automatic is the self-winding version of the aviator dial of the line. In 316L stainless steel, the case measures 46 mm in diameter and 16.5 mm in thickness.
An S.Epson YN55 automatic movement, made in Japan, powers the hours, minutes, seconds and date, with hacking seconds and manual winding, beneath a K1 crystal with anti-reflective coating. A full wind delivers a 40-hour power reserve. The crown screws down over a solid case back.
The textured blue dial sits in a case finished in rose gold PVD, with Super-LumiNova on the hands and indices. The watch is delivered with a leather strap measuring 22 mm at the lugs, closed by a buckle.

What period does the Space Race line cover?
From the first artificial satellite in 1957 to the Apollo-Soyuz mission of 1975, when a Soviet and an American craft docked in orbit and the contest came to an end. Vostok Europe has built its watches in Vilnius, Lithuania, since August 2003, on Russian movements until 2014 and on Japanese movements since.
What is K1 crystal?
A synthetic crystal that combines the shock resistance of hardened mineral crystal with a scratch resistance close to sapphire. On these cases it carries an anti-reflective coating for readability.
Does it wear as big as the diameter suggests?
The distance between the lugs determines that, and here it measures 54.7 mm. That span sits across the top of the wrist and matters more than the 46 mm of the case.
Who makes the movement?
Seiko Epson in Japan. Vostok Europe used Russian movements until 2014 and Japanese suppliers since then, so the case is assembled in Lithuania around a Japanese automatic movement.
