The 44 mm U-Boat U-65 PVD White has no side crown, and its three-level gray dial sits in oil beneath a hyper-domed sapphire crystal.
No crown on the side
The time is set with the supplied tool, which presses a button on the back.
An oil-filled case
The gray metal dial is built from three skeletonized layers, with white Super-LumiNova on the numerals, markers, and arrow-shaped hands. Oil fills the space around the dial, deepening the dial’s color and making the layers appear closer to the crystal.
The Swiss Ronda 756 quartz movement shows the hours and minutes and runs in the same oil bath. A visible air bubble leaves room for the oil to expand or contract with temperature.
Lugs that follow your wrist
The lugs pivot at the case, letting the black silicone strap change angle as it wraps around your wrist.
Rooted in a 1942 naval design
U-Boat began with Ilvo Fontana’s 1942 plans for an Italian Navy watch that was never built. His grandson Italo revived the design in Lucca.
The details
The 44 mm case is 316L stainless steel with a black PVD finish and is water-resistant to 50 meters. The sapphire crystal stands 13.2 mm high and is 3 mm thick. The Locking Ring System on the back gives access to the battery.
The strap measures 22 mm at the lugs and tapers to 20 mm at the PVD-coated steel pin buckle. The watch is made in Italy.
Use the supplied setting tool to press the button on the back. A press of up to 2 seconds advances minutes; holding it for 2–4 seconds advances hours. Hold it for more than 4 seconds for continuous advancement, then release it at the desired time.
The bubble is an intentional part of the oil-filled construction. It leaves room for the oil to change volume with temperature and moves as the watch changes position.
The gray dial is made from three stacked metal layers. The openings reveal the layers of the dial itself. A separate, battery-powered Ronda 756 quartz movement keeps the time.
The lugs pivot where the strap joins the case, allowing the strap to change angle as it wraps around your wrist. The joint moves at the case, rather than within the strap itself.
