U-Boat U-65 Automatic Watch with Black Dial.
Curving the dial beneath the crystal and moving time setting to a button on the case back, the U-65 line presents the front of the watch as one unbroken surface. In bare steel, the U-65 reveals a Miyota 8N24 through an opening in the dial, with the movement visible through a mineral case back. The case, in stainless steel 316L, measures 44 mm in diameter.
A Japanese Miyota 8N24 automatic movement powers the hours, minutes and seconds beneath a domed K9 mineral crystal, with the stainless steel case back carrying a mineral crystal secured by six screws. The rotor is skeletonized to U-Boat’s own design, the crown carries a mineral crystal insert, and the lugs move where they meet the case.
The dial is in black metal, with applied metal indexes and numerals, and hands and indexes are treated with turquoise Super-LumiNova, which is the color the dial returns in the dark. It is fitted with a silicone strap measuring 20 mm at the lugs, secured by a steel buckle.

Where does the U-Boat design come from?
From a drawing Ilvo Fontana made in 1942 for the Italian naval military forces, a diving watch that remained on paper. His grandson Italo Fontana revived it in Lucca and founded U-Boat on its proportions and on the crown set on the left side of the case.
What is visible through the dial?
The movement itself. The dial is cut away over the bridges and the balance, so the wheel that sets the rate of the watch swings into view several times a second for as long as the watch is running.
What can you see through the case back?
The movement from the bridge side, with the oscillating weight that winds the mainspring as the wrist moves and the balance swinging at the far end. That weight is cut open so the gear train stays in view behind it.
How long does the Super-LumiNova glow last?
It is a phosphorescent pigment, so it charges from daylight or a lamp and gives its brightest reading in the first minutes. It fades over the hours that follow and takes a fresh charge every time it meets light again.
Who makes the movement?
Miyota, the movement arm of Citizen in Japan. Its automatic movements are among the most widely used in the world, so they are serviced by watchmakers everywhere and replacement parts remain readily available for decades.
