The 45 mm U-Boat Classico Titanium Tungsten Blue is an automatic chronograph in grade 2 titanium, limited to 299 numbered watches, with a waffle-textured blue dial.
A waffle-textured dial
The blue metal dial is built on three levels, with a waffle-textured upper layer, recessed markers, and raised numerals. Black Super-LumiNova outlines the hands and dial details, and the 24-hour hand is red. Anti-reflective sapphire covers the dial.
The movement on view
Seven screws secure the titanium back, where a U-shaped sapphire window reveals the automatic movement and skeletonized rotor.
Rooted in a 1942 naval design
The Classico’s large numerals and protected left-side crown come from Ilvo Fontana’s 1942 plans for an Italian Navy watch that was never built. His grandson Italo revived the design in Lucca. On the Classico, a lever at 8:30 releases the protected crown.
The details
The 45 mm grade 2 titanium case has a matte tungsten bezel and is water-resistant to 100 meters.
The Swiss Sellita SW 500 automatic movement, modified to U-Boat’s specifications, displays the hours, minutes, and seconds, along with the date and a 24-hour indication. Its chronograph measures elapsed time. It has 25 jewels, runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, and provides a 62-hour power reserve.
Handcrafted in Tuscany, the strap combines Alcantara and rubber with a leather lining and waxed cotton stitching. It measures 22 mm at the lugs and 20 mm at the titanium pin buckle. The watch is made in Italy.
The opening is a sapphire window set into the metal case back. It gives a view of the automatic chronograph movement and its skeletonized rotor, while seven screws secure the surrounding back.
It distinguishes morning from evening. The main hour hand goes around the dial twice a day, while the 24-hour hand makes one full turn; read it against its own scale to tell, for example, 4 a.m. from 4 p.m.
The lever between 8 and 9 o’clock releases the protected crown on the left side of the case. The chronograph is operated with its separate pushers.
It combines Alcantara and rubber, with a leather lining underneath and waxed cotton stitching to finish the strap. A titanium pin buckle matches the titanium case.
