The Bauhaus Aviation Tornado Power Reserve is a pilot’s watch with a power reserve indicator on its black dial and a sapphire crystal.
Power reserve and small seconds
The power reserve indicator sits beside the small seconds subdial and shows how much power is left in the mainspring. A window on the dial shows the date.
Luminous hands
White numerals and indices mark the black dial. The luminous hands help you read the time in low light.
An official Tornado license
Bauhaus makes the Aviation Tornado pilot’s watches under an official license for the Tornado combat jet, which first flew in 1974. The aircraft’s name is printed on the dial.
The details
The Japanese Miyota 9132 automatic movement powers the hours, minutes, small seconds, date, and power reserve indicator, and provides a 40-hour power reserve. A see-through case back reveals the rotor.
The satin-finished stainless steel case measures 42 mm across and 15 mm thick, and a sapphire crystal covers the dial. Water resistance is rated at 50 meters. The brown leather strap, 22 mm at the lugs, fastens with a pin buckle. The watch is made in Germany.
The hand shows roughly how many hours of power remain. It falls as the mainspring unwinds and rises as you wear the watch or turn the crown.
About 40 hours when fully wound. Daily wear keeps the mainspring wound. After a longer period off the wrist, a few turns of the crown will start the watch again.
Sapphire’s hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale makes it highly resistant to everyday scratches. It can still be scratched by harder materials, and a hard impact can chip or crack it, especially at an edge.
The 2790-3 has light blue numerals and a black leather strap. Both have the 42 mm case, the Miyota 9132 movement, and the sapphire crystal.
It’s made in Germany, uses a Japanese automatic movement, and comes with a 3-year warranty.
