Overview
Limited to 1,000 watches, the Ball Roadmaster Pilot GMT changes local time with two pushers, so you can set it quickly after landing.
Rooted in railroad time
Ball’s link to time zones dates to 1883, when American railroads adopted standard time. That year, Webb C. Ball became Cleveland’s first jeweler to use official time signals.
Local time at the push of a button
Two pushers on the side of the titanium case move the local hour hand in one-hour steps. The GMT hand stays on home time, and the seconds keep moving. You can change local time without resetting home time or stopping the watch.
Reading the GMT hand against the scale on the bidirectional ceramic bezel gives you a third time zone. On a trip with connections in several countries, you can reset local time at each stop with the pushers.
Lit by 27 tritium tubes
Twenty-seven sealed tritium gas tubes keep the hands and dial illuminated continuously. They produce their own light without a battery or any need for prior exposure to sunlight or a lamp. The Super-LumiNova on the bezel markings, by contrast, glows after exposure to light.
A movement on display
The Ball RR1204-C automatic movement powers the time and date, and the sapphire display back shows it at work inside the case. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal covers the blue dial.
The details
The titanium case measures 40 mm across and 14 mm thick, with a screw-down crown. The watch resists shocks of 5,000 Gs (5,000 times the force of gravity). It also resists magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m (the international standard for antimagnetic watches). The case is water-resistant to 300 meters. A stainless steel and titanium bracelet closes with a folding clasp.

How do I read the three time zones?
The main hands show local time, and the GMT hand reads a second zone on the fixed 24-hour scale. Turn the bidirectional bezel to read that same GMT hand against another 24-hour scale for a third zone.
How do the pushers change local time?
They move the local hour hand in one-hour steps. The GMT hand continues to show home time and the seconds keep running, so you can change local time without resetting home time or stopping the watch. After setting or winding, return the crown to its closed position and screw it fully into the case before contact with water. Correct closure is needed to maintain the rated water resistance.
Does the gas-tube illumination need charging?
No. This watch uses 27 tritium gas tubes. Inside each sealed glass tube, tritium activates a luminous coating. The tubes glow continuously, without a battery or any need to be charged by sunlight or a lamp. The glow gradually fades as the tritium decays, with a half-life of about 12.3 years.
What does magnetic resistance mean for the movement?
Magnetic fields can disturb a mechanical movement’s rate. Magnetic resistance is rated at 4,800 A/m. Stronger fields can exceed that protection.
