U-Boat Sommerso Damascus Automatic Watch with Black Dial.
The Classico line descends from the diving watch Ilvo Fontana drew in 1942 for the Italian naval forces, and carries the left-hand crown that drawing placed there. The Sommerso Damascus forges case, back and buckle in Damascus steel, so that the folded layers surface as a pattern unique to each piece. At 46 mm in diameter, the case is Damascus steel.
A Swiss SW 200 automatic movement powers the hours, minutes, seconds, date and a 24-hour indicator beneath a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. The crown screws down under a patented protector on the left, while six screws close the Damascus steel case back.
The dial is built on three levels, black, with a visible ruby, brushed metal numerals and raised indexes, all treated, hands included, with beige Super-LumiNova for legibility in the dark. It comes on an ultra-resistant vulcanized rubber strap customized with the embossed Maison logo, closed by a Damascus steel tongue buckle.

Where does the U-Boat design come from?
From a drawing Ilvo Fontana made in 1942 for the Italian naval military forces, a diving watch that remained on paper. His grandson Italo Fontana revived it in Lucca and founded U-Boat on its proportions and on the crown set on the left side of the case.
What is Damascus steel?
Steel folded and forge-welded in alternating layers, then etched so the boundaries between the layers surface as a grain. The pattern comes out of the forging itself, so the piece you receive carries a grain that belongs to it alone.
How does a 46 mm case sit on the wrist?
It is a large watch and it is built to read as one. Compare the figure against a watch you already own before you order, because the diameter is what decides this and it is the measurement a photograph flattens. A loose cuff will pass over it.
Who makes the movement?
Sellita, in Switzerland. Its movements are serviced by watchmakers worldwide, and replacement parts remain readily available, which is how this watch assembled in Tuscany carries Swiss movement engineering inside an Italian case.
