U-Boat Classico U-47 Dark Soul Automatic Watch with Black Dial.
The Classico line descends from the diving watch Ilvo Fontana drew in 1942 for the Italian naval forces, and carries the left-hand crown that drawing placed there. The Classico U-47 Dark Soul takes the line to 47 mm under a black DLC treatment covering case, bezel and crown guard alike. DLC, 47 mm in diameter.
An automatic mechanical movement powers the hours, minutes, seconds and date beneath a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. The case back screws in and reveals the movement through fumé glass, and the serial number is engraved on a small plate fixed to the side of the case.
Black, the dial is built in three superimposed layers with a visible ruby, its hands, numerals and indexes treated with beige Super-LumiNova for legibility in the dark. The watch comes on a black laser-cut leather strap aged by a natural process and handmade in Tuscany, closed by a steel tongue buckle with DLC treatment.

Why does the crown sit on the left?
It comes from a watch Ilvo Fontana drew in 1942 for the Italian naval forces, a diver whose crown sat on the left so the hands could be set from that side. His grandson Italo Fontana founded U-Boat in Lucca around that drawing, and the patented clamp over the crown is the part he added.
What is visible through the dial?
The movement itself. The dial is cut away over the bridges and the balance, so the wheel that sets the rate of the watch swings into view several times a second for as long as the watch is running.
What can you see through the case back?
The movement from the bridge side, with the oscillating weight that winds the mainspring as the wrist moves and the balance swinging at the far end. That weight is cut open so the gear train stays in view behind it.
What is the DLC coating?
Diamond-like carbon, laid down in a vacuum chamber as a film a few microns thick. It reaches a hardness far above that of the steel underneath, which is why a black DLC case keeps its finish where black paint or plating would wear through at the edges.
How does a 47 mm case sit on the wrist?
It is a large watch and it is built to read as one. Compare the figure against a watch you already own before you order, because the diameter is what decides this and it is the measurement a photograph flattens. A loose cuff will pass over it.
