Phileas Fogg and Passepartout cross the United States by train on their way from Yokohama back to London. That episode from Jules Verne's novel is depicted on the ruthenium-coated metal cap, where a laser-engraved locomotive appears with pressure valves and billowing smoke above the polished dark blue lacquer barrel.
The safety-chain motif on the cone recalls Passepartout uncoupling the train from its locomotive to rescue the crew during the attack in the novel. On the ruthenium-coated clip, a red lacquer heart represents Fogg and Princess Aouda. Card suits refer to his wager, while the timeline at the cap top records the 36-day return leg within the 80-day journey.
