Overview

The Platinum #3776 Century Unkai captures Mount Fuji’s sea of clouds in a carved, transparent barrel beneath a translucent brown cap with a matching grip.

Unkai means sea of clouds, the landscape that brings Platinum’s Fuji Unkei series to a close. Lens-cut facets and carved grooves give the clear resin barrel the appearance of clouds gathering in layers around Mount Fuji. Their reflections change with the light and viewing angle, while the brown cap and grip recall the mountainside illuminated by the morning sun.

A Mount Fuji-shaped nut is visible inside the dome, a signature detail of the Fuji series. The #3776 name comes from the mountain’s height of 3,776 meters. An engraved serial number on the dome identifies each pen in the worldwide edition of 1,500.

Hand-made in Japan, Unkai has a rhodium-plated 14k gold nib, rhodium-plated brass rings and a rhodium-plated steel clip. It accepts ink cartridges or a converter for bottled ink, and the Slip & Seal mechanism helps prevent ink from drying while capped.

The cloud-themed box carries the landscape into the presentation. It contains a Converter-700A, one blue-black cartridge and a 20 ml bottle of Fuji-no-Ebizome ink, created for the edition. The ink evokes Mount Fuji at twilight through grape-red and reddish-purple tones with muted green nuances; its appearance depends on the paper and amount of ink. The bottle cap carries a three-dimensional illustration.

Unkai measures 139.5 mm capped, with a barrel width of 15.4 mm, and weighs 20.8 g with the cap. The exclusive box measures 118 mm wide by 200 mm deep by 40 mm high and weighs approximately 290 g.
