Overview

Luminox ECO #TIDE Quartz Watch with Gray Dial.

Made from 100% ocean-bound plastic collected off 5 islands in the Andaman Sea, #TIDE ocean material defines the ECO #TIDE line. In the ECO 8900 series, #TIDE ocean material is used for the strap as well as the case and bezel. Its ocean waste material case measures 46 mm and is 14 mm thick.

The Swiss Ronda 515 HH6 quartz caliber powers the hours, minutes, seconds, and date beneath an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The case features a unidirectional bezel in #TIDE material and a screw-down case back.

Tritium gas tubes illuminate the hands and hour markers on the gray dial for up to 25 years. The strap is also made of #TIDE material.

Questions & Answers

Where does the #TIDE material come from?

From plastic waste gathered and sorted by trained local fishermen on 5 islands in the Andaman Sea off Thailand. It is cleaned, shredded and injected again like the original plastic, and 3 half-liter bottles make 1 watch. Luminox was founded in 1989 by Barry Cohen and Richard Timbo, and assembles and tests its watches in Solothurn, Switzerland.

How does Luminox Light Technology work?

Each marker is a borosilicate glass capsule about 0.5 mm across, coated inside with phosphorescent powder and filled with tritium gas, so it glows around the clock with nothing to charge. Luminox holds the intensity constant for the first 10 years, and after that the brightness decreases gradually as the gas loses energy, over a visible life of up to 25 years.

How well does the crystal hold up?

Sapphire rates 9 on the Mohs scale, just below diamond, and Luminox gives it an anti-reflective coating for readability at any angle in bright light.

Who makes the movement?

Ronda, in Lausen, Switzerland. The watch carries the Swiss Made mark, which requires at least 60% of the manufacturing costs of the watch head to be incurred in Switzerland.

Your order arrives brand new in its original Luminox packaging, with all official documentation and the Luminox warranty card, stamped and dated by us.

The warranty covers manufacturing defects. It doesn't cover normal wear and tear or accidental damage — and on watches, it doesn't cover straps, bracelets, or batteries.
