The Scribo Piuma Corniola fountain pen takes its warm orange palette from carnelian, a stone with a long history in the art of sealing letters.
Carnelian gives Corniola its warm orange palette. A variety of chalcedony in the quartz family, the stone takes its name from the Latin carnis, meaning 'flesh', in reference to its color. Scribo recreates that color in resin with platinum-finished metal details. Together with Agata and Ametista, Corniola forms a trio of Piuma finishes inspired by stones and their symbolism.
The stone also has a practical link with writing. The Romans used carnelian for seal stamps because hot wax would not stick to it, sealing letters and important documents with an impression in wax. Scribo associates its warm orange with optimism and vitality. The color fills Piuma's oval body with its two flat facets; the collection's name means 'feather' in Italian.
The cap, barrel, knob, and nib holder are handcrafted in resin. An ebonite feed supplies the Scribo 18k gold nib. Corniola accepts ink cartridges or a converter for bottled ink and closes with a screw-on cap. Made in Italy, this color is limited to 219 fountain pens.
Corniola comes in a natural leather and cotton case. It measures 144.5 mm capped, with a barrel width of 15.6 mm, and weighs 30 g with the cap.
Carnelian was used by the Romans for seal stamps because hot wax would not stick to the stone. Those stamps left impressions in the wax used to seal letters and important documents. Corniola recalls that connection with correspondence through its carnelian-inspired orange finish.
The cap and body are handcrafted in resin, colored to recall orange carnelian. Platinum finishes the clip and metal components.
It accepts ink cartridges or a converter for bottled ink.
