Overview
The Scribo La Dotta Valverde fountain pen honors a sixteenth-century cistern in historic Bologna, with green-and-orange resin and gold PVD details.
Behind the Fountain of Neptune lies a less familiar part of Bologna's history. The Valverde cistern, built in the sixteenth century to supply the city with water, also collected water used to feed the fountain. Scribo names this edition for that work of hydraulic engineering, giving it a place in La Dotta's tribute to Bologna, 'the learned one'.
Valverde was introduced with Turrita and Al Zigant. Turrita recalls medieval Bologna's 'forest of towers', a skyline Scribo compares with Manhattan almost a millennium later. Al Zigant, 'the Giant', is the affectionate, ironic nickname in Bologna's dialect for the sixteenth-century Fountain of Neptune, built to celebrate the city's power. Each edition tells a different part of the city's architectural story.
The cap, barrel, knob, and nib holder are handcrafted in green-and-orange resin, with gold-finished clip and metal details. Valverde has a Scribo 18k gold nib and an ebonite feed. Its piston filling system holds 1.42 ml of bottled ink, and the cap screws closed.
Made in Italy in a limited production of 219 fountain pens for this color, Valverde is presented in a natural leather and cotton case. It measures 148 mm capped and has a barrel width of 16.75 mm.
