The Bauhaus Dessau Solar Chronograph is powered by light and holds a charge for more than 90 days.
A charge indicator
Light passing through the blue dial charges a rechargeable cell, and a charge indicator on the dial shows how full it is. A 24-hour hand, which turns once a day, tells day from night.
Chronograph and date
Two pushers start, stop, and reset the chronograph, and a window shows the date. White numerals and indices mark the hours. At 10 mm thick, the polished case slips easily under a shirt cuff.
Dessau and the Bauhaus
Dessau, the city that gives the line its name, was home to the Bauhaus school from 1925 to 1932. The watches themselves are assembled in Ruhla, Thuringia, where watchmaking dates back to 1892.
The details
The Japanese Seiko VR42A solar quartz movement powers the hours, minutes, chronograph, 24-hour hand, charge indicator, and date beneath a K1 mineral crystal.
The polished stainless steel case measures 41 mm across and 10 mm thick. Water resistance is rated at 50 meters. The dark brown leather strap, 20 mm at the lugs, fastens with a pin buckle. The watch is made in Germany.

How do I use the chronograph?
The upper pusher starts and stops the chronograph, and the lower pusher resets it to zero.
Does it ever need a new battery?
Rarely. Its rechargeable cell typically lasts about 10 years and is charged by light through the dial. Bauhaus advises keeping the watch in the dark for no more than 4 months.
What is K1 mineral crystal?
A specially hardened mineral crystal. It resists scratches better than standard mineral crystal, though sapphire is harder still.
How does it differ from the 2086-5?
The 2086-5 has a beige dial and black numerals. Both have the 41 mm case, the Seiko VR42A movement, and the 24-hour hand.
Where is it made, and what is the warranty?
It’s made in Germany, uses a Japanese solar quartz movement, and comes with a 3-year warranty.
