Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon AeroGMT Sled Driver Automatic Chronograph Watch with Black Dial.
Limited to 1,990 pieces worldwide. The Engineer Hydrocarbon line carries Ball's heaviest protection: crown guards, lubricants rated for extreme cold, and several models developed with military and professional diving units. The AeroGMT Sled Driver honors Major Brian Shul, one of 92 pilots to fly the SR-71 Blackbird — the aircraft its crews called the Sled — on a titanium case back. The stainless steel case measures 42 mm in diameter and 13.85 mm in thickness.
COSC chronometer-certified, the Ball RR1201-C provides a 42-hour power reserve. The hands, the indices and the bezel are lit by 44 sealed glass tubes of tritium gas, each self-powered for 25 years. Around it, the case absorbs impact to 7,500 Gs and magnetic protection reaches 4,800 A/m.
Year after year, the 44 tubes maintain the same brightness on their own energy.

What happens to the gas tubes over the years?
The 44 tubes hold tritium gas, which emits its own light through radioactive decay, continuously and without any outside energy. Tritium has a half-life of 12.3 years, so the glow fades slowly. Ball rates the tubes for at least 25 years of useful reading.
What does COSC certification actually guarantee?
The movement was tested for 15 days by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres in 5 positions and at 3 temperatures, and it must hold an average daily rate between -4 and +6 seconds. The certificate covers the movement as tested, before it was cased.
Is it affected by magnets?
The case provides magnetic protection to 4,800 A/m, which covers the everyday sources that shift the rate of a mechanical watch.
What does 7,500 Gs of shock resistance mean?
It is the impact the movement is built to take and still keep its rate — the order of a watch knocked hard against a door frame, or dropped onto a wooden floor from waist height.
