Alpina Alpiner Extreme Automatic Watch with Green Dial.
From the Alpina 4 of 1938, the Alpiner collection takes its specification: antimagnetic, shock-resistant, water-resistant and cased in stainless steel. On the Alpiner Extreme Automatic a triangular screw-in bezel sits on a cushion case 42.5 mm long, the signature steel case of the collection, 41 mm across and 11.5 mm thick.
Sealed by a screw-down crown and a screw-in case back, the watch runs on an AL-525 automatic movement that powers the hours, minutes, seconds and a date at 3 o’clock under a sapphire crystal.
The dial, in the shade Alpina calls British racing green, is satin-finished and textured in the Alpina triangle pattern, with hands and indexes that carry a luminescent treatment. An integrated green rubber strap, measuring 16 mm at the lugs, secures the watch with a push-button folding clasp.

What are the four qualities behind the Alpiner collection?
They come from the Alpina 4 of 1938. Alpina set out that a sports watch had to be antimagnetic, shock-resistant, water-resistant and cased in stainless steel, and the Alpiner collection keeps that brief. Gottlieb Hauser founded Alpina in 1883, and the brand produces and assembles its movements and watches at its manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva.
How long does it run when it is not worn?
A full wind delivers about a 38-hour power reserve. Daily wear keeps the mainspring topped up, and after a longer rest in a drawer a few turns of the crown restart it.
Who makes the movement?
Alpina builds the AL-525 on a Swiss Sellita SW200 automatic base, and assembles its watches at its manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva, as part of the Frederique Constant group.
How does the luminescent treatment work?
The pigment on the hands and markers stores light and releases it in the dark. It is brightest just after exposure to daylight, fades gradually through the night and recharges the next time it sees light.
How well does the crystal hold up?
Sapphire sits at 9 on the Mohs scale, just below diamond, so few things encountered in normal wear will mark it, and it stays clear for the life of the watch.
