The Nippon Art fountain pen depicts the sudden burst of a pair of pheasants taking off. The background is filled with heart-shaped particles lifted by the beating of wings. The male pheasant rises to meet the female at the top. The two birds always align their beaks when the cap is screwed onto the body. Crafted by "Kokkokai," a group of Maki-e artisans formed in 1931 around Gonroku Matsuda, this piece is made using the Hira Maki-e technique, where the lacquered main design is adorned with sprinkled gold and silver powders. Several additional layers of lacquer are applied, and once hardened, it is polished.
Flawless buying experience. And Alba answered all my questions quickly and accurately.

Most affordable namiki maki-e is a star
I love this pen. It has a detailed and interesting design that covers more of the pen than some of the other more expensive maki-e pens that I considered. It also writes beautifully and I have struggled with some pens due to my writing style so this was a huge relief.

Beautiful, functional pen.
I ordered the medium nib for this pen. It writes very smoothly, which is a big plus for me, since I hold pens at an odd angle. The design on the nib and on the body is gorgeous. I like that you can feel the texture of the design, instead of it being a flat, lacquered surface. Finally, I love the CON-70 converter that comes with this pen. It is so much quicker to use than a normal twist converter- the only downside is that it requires some more effort to clean. (use a syringe if you have one!)

I found Iguana really friendly, helpful and efficient to both buy the pen and when I had a query - very quick to respond. The pen is gorgeous and I’m now using it every day.
